G'day John....yes, I believe I did get your response.....and I thought I replied and also tired to reply below. ;)

I did get a note from QLong.....they conveyed there is no flange bearing in the Hylas 46. Flange bearing meaning... (just aft of stuffing box), I did re-ask them for clarification.....making sure there is no bearing just aft of the stuffing box.

Thanks and Happy Thanksgiving to all!!

Hello John....thanks for your speedy reply!! OK, I should have inclcuded (dummy me) that I have repowered approx. 900 hours ago. I had my 4JH2-TE rebuilt. I also had my tranny rebuilt. With the engine rebuild I also bought 4 new engine mounts. Approx. 2 or 3 months ago....I un-coupled the engine from shaft so as to check engine alignment. The alignment did change a bit as suspected after new mounts. I adjusted same to near perfect.

That said....one old engine mount (rear port) was pretty worn (pretty much to the extent of non existant).....maybe since that mount was worn quite a bit....prop shaft was wearing on flange cutlass.....and that is now what I am hearing?

I alway did hear a slight wobble sound....it just now, that it has gotten slightly more pronounced.

My email is donnie.c.chaney@gmail.com

Thanks
Don

If the wobble just showed up, I would check your engine mounts and shaft alignment first.  Your mounts could need replacement.  The Yanmar manual shows how to check them.  You could also see if coupling alignment is OK.  There are good online articles on how to check and align shafts.

If these do not address the issue, then you will have to check bearings on next pull out.

You can also look at the area when running to see if there is anything obvious.  I had a 49 which may be different than your 46 but would be glad to help if you want to bounce your findings off me.

G'day members. We  have hull #028 H-46. I am starting to get a slight wobble/knock sound from aft cabin/head area. I know the cutlas is good at the last yard (2months ago) as cutlas was checked. No movement there. ;)

It is my understanding the bearing just aft of the stuffing box is a flange bearing. Is it possible for this flange bearing to go bad when the cutlas bearing is good?

If this is so......my thinking is, the previous owner changed cutlass bearing without changing flange bearing and now the flange bearing is going south on me??

Having said that, has anyone changed this flange bearing? if so....do you have direction/hints for removal and replacement?

Thanks heaps!
Don
