In light air, upwind is not your friend!  We have a 155 for racing in light air, and it helps. She does not start moving well until the wind gets up to 12 apparent.  Between 15-20 knots she does well upwind with a 135, but like most boats, she is always faster between 60 and 120 degrees apparent.  We use the staysail when reaching, so that helps too.

Hope that answers your question.

What is your opinion on the best point of sail for the Hylas 44.  I guess what I'm looking for is information about what point of sail would the hylas 44 sail closest to it's So-Cal rating of 108.  For instance I used to race a C&C 39, and it would go up wind great, but not as well downwind.  Where as my Cal 25 wouldn't be able to go up wind all that well, but downwind it kept up with much faster boats.
