My 2001 H54 has fiberglass holding tanks.  They can be emptied by deck pumpout or by macerator pump overboard.  There is a On/Off/Auto switch in each head to operate the macerator pump.  I don't know what, if anything, the "auto" setting does, I just use the manual "on" to empty the tank when at sea.

Holding tanks?

Just getting round to the unpleasant job of servicing the heads on my 2005 Hylas 54. A couple of questions.

1. As they came from the factory is there a way to empty the holding tanks without a pump-out? There is nothing obvious to me.
2. Are the holding tanks stainless or fiberglass? I would like to give the pipes a good clean with muriatic acid, but not if the tanks are steel.

TIA
