New H44 owners

(1/1)

Grayl:
Congratulations! We've had our H44, "Journey" for six years. We are slowly working to prepare her for long distance cruising. We intend to take a break from work in two years. We are in the Puget Sound area. If you get our way drop a line to us.

rstanley02:
Congratulations! We have owned our H44 for 11 years and have no regrets.

Congrats guys!
We plan to do long-distance cruising when we retire.  I built a hard bimini this spring and plan to add 3 100 watt flexible solar panels.  Not too hard to do, and a great addition to the boat! (original canvas was trashed).
Working on adding a staysail.  We have an asym in a sock.
One full time live aboard installed a watermaker where one of the port water tanks was located.
I know we need adequate anchor and chain, a dinghy and engine (have davits already), new refrigeration.  Trying to avoid installing a generator.  Will likely replace the battery charger with a charger/inverter.
Safety - inspect/replace/upgrade bilge pumps.  Life raft?  EPIRB.  Jack lines and life jackets with tethers.  Sat Phone or equivalent.  If lifelines are covered with plastic, replace them.

Hull 66

Sailingalice:
We have just completed long negotiations and finally completed on hull number 18

The boat was built for a dutch owner in 1986 she was then sold to a french owner in 1993 and called Jacotte.

Wind Rose is her current name and the owner purchased her in France in the year 2000. She was then sailed to the Caribbean and spent many years sailing in there before being shipped back to Europe due to heath issues.

The boat is now in Spain, we plan to refit her over the winter to prepare her for long distance cruising. We be changing her name to Alice In Wonderland and will be registered on an Australian flag.

The rigging sails, engine, steering are in great condition however the rest of the boat need attention.

Any comments from people long distance cruising on H44s  would be greatly appreciated. best upgrades or favorite  things on board for full time cruising would help us asses what we are going buy in the future.

Many thanks

Blake and Erica
