Our (early) 46 has a mix of 10" and 12" cleats.  I'm still considering changing them all to 14", Herreschoff pattern.  With (4) 316 stainless bolts and a simple backing plate.  Wouldn't be too difficult, access from below looks possible.

On board Ambition we have a pair of midship cleats on both sides. The cleats are positioned just ahead and aft of the SS chock.

Hi. I read past posts on problems of corrosion on cleat mountings and am inspired to remove, inspect and replace as necessary. However as a second issue I have always thought that a second mid ship cleat would be good to have somewhere aft of the boarding gate. The single one has several disadvantages in that it requires long aft springs, the spring crosses the boarding area and the cleat is too small causing a mess of warp for fore and aft springs.
Has anyone fitted an additial cleat and did they find a preferrred position and how did you provide a strong backing.
